A weakpoint of commonly used MSP nanodiscs compared to our NativeMP technology is protein quantification through absorption measurement at 280nm. With the MSP protein having its own signal on top of the stabilized membrane protein getting to the exact protein concentration can be a hassle.

Therefore, MSP "Darks" lack any Tryptophan residues that are primarily responsible for that 280nm signal. The Tryptophans were replaced with Phenylalanines Meaning quantifications for MSP stabilized membrane proteins at 280nm is now easier than ever.
